Evanescence Are Heading In A Synth-Pop Direction (MusicRooms.net)
The group is working on their third album - a follow up to their 2006
album ‘The Open Door’ - and singer and pianist Amy Lee said the sound
of the album will more away from their established rock and classically
influenced sound.
Amy told Spin.com: “It's going in an electro-pop direction -- there are
no organic instruments. It's a Portishead or Massive Attack direction,
and lyrically it's about moving on, but in a very non-confrontational,
non-angry way.”
Amy, 28, has also assembled a new line up for the group- consisting of
guitarist Terry Balsamo, bass player Tim McCord, drummer Will Hunt and
a programmer who is also called Will Hunt - after all the original
members left between 2003 and 2006 and formed rival band We Are The
Fallen.
Amy said there will be elements of the turmoil she went through with
the former members of the ‘Bring Me To Life’ rockers on the new record.
She added: “There's a lot of bull***t related to that band name for me,
but I'm ready to move past it. I've realised that Evanescence is who I
am.
“There are moments of, ‘Hey, I'm over it and I'm good’ and others of
fun sarcasm like, ‘Hey, everything's not the most dramatic thing in the
world’ on the new record.
“But it gets really, really, really deep in places, too. That's
probably why it's been really hard to pick an album title. Lyrically,
it's a more real version of myself. I'm saying things that I would've
been afraid to say before.”
Evanescence’s third album is set for release in Autumn this year.
Exclusive: Amy Lee on the New Evanescence Album (Spin.com)
Thanks a lot to Spin.com for pointing us to this brand new Amy interview.. ENJOY!!
Evanescence singer Amy Lee is over the drama.
"There's
a lot of bullshit related to that band name for me," Lee tells
SPIN.com, "but I'm ready to move past it. I've realized that
Evanescence is who I am."
She's not kidding about the bullshit.
Since their 2003 Grammy-winning, multi-platinum debut Fallen rocketed
the Little Rock, AR, natives to world stardom, the group have been
plagued by in-fighting and lineup changes, beginning with the departure
of co-founder Ben Moody. In a very public 2006 spat, the last remaining
original members -- guitarist John LeCompt and drummer Rocky Gray --
left or were fired, and soon joined Moody to form We Are the Fallen
with ex-American Idol finalist Carly Smithson on vocals.
Evanescence
is also moving on. The goth-rock outfit will release their first album
since 2006 this September, with a new lineup -- and a new sound.
Lee,
guitarist Terry Balsamo, bassist Tim McCord, drummer Will Hunt, and the
band's newest member, producer, songwriter, and studio whiz Will
"Science" Hunt (that's right -- the band has two guys named "Will
Hunt"), are recording the album in a New York studio with producer
Steve Lillywhite (U2, Rolling Stones). And they're taking Evanescence's
characteristically heavy, goth-rock sound in an electro-pop direction
inspired by Lee's favorite bands: Massive Attack, Bjork, and
Portishead.
"The album has sounds that are distorted, changed, reversed," says Lee. "There's a lot of that fun stuff going on."
Below, she tells SPIN.com more about the record, her former bandmates, and her favorite hobby: painting.
Hey guys,
Just one thing to clarify from this article. Troy won't be joining us on tour. He is a full-on writing member of
Seether now and is getting a chance to really bloom there. They are
currently in the studio working on a new album as well. We will miss
him on the road, but I'm very happy for him. He's a very kind and
talented man who deserves to shine creatively.
Terry will be playing
all of the guitar on our album, and when we get closer to tour we will
figure out who will be the other live guitarist. Otherwise, the lineup
is the same, with the addition of Will Hunt (Science).
By the way, it's very hard to describe what the new album will sound
like as a whole, you're just going to have to hear it to really
understand! It's definitely still Ev, or I wouldn't be calling it that. Its just
ever evolving. I can't wait to hear it finished. I'm having a lot of
fun right now, its good to be back doing what I love.
love,
Amy
*****
Ciao ragazzi.

Evanescence Go Electro As Lee Has “Fun With Music” on Next LP (RollingStone.com)
On Monday, February 22nd, Evanescence started recording their upcoming
third album in New York with famed producer Steve Lillywhite. Singer
Amy Lee tells Rolling Stone the new disc is going to be a mix of
“sarcastic aggression” that will show a new side of the band — a
distinct electro influence. “A lot of bands I’ve always been inspired
by are just coming into play a little more,” says Lee, citing the
future-shock sounds of Depeche Mode, Massive Attack, Portishead, CSS,
La Roux and MGMT. “There’s a lot of stuff that doesn’t sound like
Evanescence, but the heart of the band of still there. This is a
really, really, rhythmically driven record. So there’s tons of
drum-programming fused with live drums; drums we’re renting a day at a
time, like Japanese taiko drums.”
Lee is co-writing the album with old friend and new collaborator Will
Hunt, a producer, programmer and drummer from Fort Worth, Texas. The
pair decided to start writing together after arranging “Sally’s Song,”
Amy Lee’s addition to 2008’s Nightmare Revisited album and spent all of
2009 writing together in New York and Texas, crafting a handful of
already-recorded electronic programming that will end up on the
forthcoming record. “The sounds and influence he brings to the table —
programming outer-space awesome sounds you can’t even recognize. I went
through a phase where I didn’t know if it was solo time, or go write
score music, or what,” says Lee. “And then once we wrote together, I
realized this is totally Evanescence.”
The album is also the band’s first with veteran producer Steve
Lillywhite, who’s produced for the Rolling Stones, Dave Matthews Band
and, most notably, worked on eight U2 albums. Lillywhite, who
approached the band, is co-producing the album with Hunt, and has been
working with them since day one. “He’s not the kind of producer that
would leave during the day and then come back to see what we’re doing,”
says Lee of Lillywhite. “He’s part of the team, a big part of the team.”
This is Evanescence’s first record since 2006’s platinum The Open Door.
In the time off, Lee got married and started taking harp lessons — and
she assures that the plucky fruits of her labor will definitely appear
on the LP. As for the rest of the band, guitarist Terry Balsamo and
bassist Tim McCord are back on board; Dave Campbell will once again
handle string arrangements; and live guitarist Troy McLawhorn is
tentative depending on his schedule with his band Seether. Hunt will be
doing most of the drumming, but Lee doesn’t rule out an appearance by
Evanescence’s last live drummer — coincidentally also named Will Hunt.
“This is going to be really hard to get across without people getting
confused because they have the same exact name,” says Lee. “But we’re
actually doing a two-drummer thing for the next tour. Basically Thing 1
and Thing 2 — we’re gonna have figure out some kind of plan for just
knowing who’s who.”
As for the change in direction, Lee says it’s more of an aesthetic
homecoming. “I’m just at a place where I know who I am,” says Lee. “I’m
not trying to prove anything this time. Last time I had a lot of weight
on my shoulders. This time I’m just having fun with music.”

Third Studio Album I Details (Evanescence.com)
After much anticipation, Evanescence front woman, Amy Lee confirmed today that Evanescence is in fact going into the studio this week to work on their third studio album with Grammy Award Winning producer Steve Lillywhite. The band’s new album is scheduled for a late Fall 2010 release date.
“I can’t explain how excited I am to make this record,” said Amy Lee. “Over the past year and a half these songs have become the center of my life, and I can't wait to hear what they grow into in the studio. I think our sound is evolving into something that will surprise people, in a very good way. I feel, as always, that growth can be an incredible, limitless thing if you let it. I never want to make the same album twice.”
Evanescence will be taking over 2010 with their highly anticipated
third studio album due for late August/early September release date.
Front woman, Amy Lee confirmed that Evanescence will be entering the
studio this week to begin work on their third album with Grammy Award
Winning producer Steve Lillywhite.
One of the coolest things I ever saw at a Disney event was when Lee
took the stage at Nightmare Before X-Mas 3-D at Hollywood's El Capitan
theater two Halloweens ago for an entrancing, engaging and endlessly
awesome rendition of "Sally's Song" from Nightmare Revisited. She's
grown immensely as a vocalist, and this new album promises to be one of
the most important rock records of the year.
"I can't expain how excited I am to make this record," said Amy Lee.
"Over the past year and a half these songs have become the center of my
life, and I can't wait to hear what they grow into in the studio. I
think our sound is evolving into something that will surprise people,
in a very good way. I feel, as always, that growth can be an
incredible, limitless thing if you let it. I never want to make the
same album twice."
The band, famous for hits like "Bring Me to Life", "My Immortal,"
"Going Under" and "Call Me When You’re Sober", promises to stay true to
the core Evanescence sound while integrating additional new sounds to
create "another world." The music's core, which ranges from whisper-
soft to painfully aggressive spans sounds of rock, goth and classical,
led by Lee's passionate vocals.
Evanescence is founder Amy Lee on vocals, piano, keyboards and harp;
Terry Balsamo on guitar; Tim McCord on bass; Will Hunt on drums; and
new collaborator Will "Science", who will provide programming and
drums, as well as additional production.
Evanescence has sold nearly 20 million records worldwide, more than 8
million in the U.S. alone, and won two Grammys® with their major-label
debut Fallen, and a Grammy® nomination with their second album, The
Open Door.
Steve Lillywhite, into the studio with Evanescence (USAToday.com)
It's not quite Howard Stern taking to the airwaves, but it's
pretty clever: British producer Steve Lillywhite -- who has worked with
U2, the Rolling Stones, Dave Matthews Band, Jason Mraz, 30 Seconds to
Mars and many, many more -- posted a video today outlining the many
reasons he'd make a suitable replacement for Simon
Cowell.
"I will be fair, I can be humorous, I will be
firm," says Lillywhite, who goes into the studio next week with
Evanescence. Another plus: "I have spent 30 years telling Bono what to
do."
Tonight on Crossfire: Is Evanescence really goth? Is Nine Inch Nails
truly industrial? Does Lil Wayne have any talent? These arguments could
be debated eternally. With no finite resolution.
Personally, I would describe Evanescence as watered-down goth-metal
made palatable for mainstream audiences. Evanescence's music is much
easier to digest than typical gothic-rock and goth-metal, which tends
to be heavier in both its lyrical content and music, and often has more
complex song structures.
I must admit though – until it was overplayed, I was a big fan of the
band's 2003 release Fallen and the other songs recorded during that
era. But by the time the follow-up album The Open Door had arrived, I
was long worn-out on the band's songs, sound, and most of all, their
goth-wannabe fans.
So when I discovered on the Pulse Music Board I frequent that
Evanescence had released a new song, I had mixed feelings. Am I still
tired of them? Can they win me back? Do I even care? Well,
come, children. Step into my mind. And keep your arms and legs inside
the ride until it has come to a complete stop.
"Together Again" starts with a phat electronic beat that reminds me of
Tori Amos' "Hey Jupiter". A simple, delicate piano line floats under an
angelic-yet-haunting female choir. Layers of violins appear through the
track and add to the track's eerie soundscape. I would compare this
track's feel to the "Bring Me To Life" B-side "Missing" or the
unreleased "Before The Dawn".
Lee begins singing and her voice is just as powerful and moving as I
remember it being in 2003. She is still very capable of conveying
sadness and despair without having to whine or wail obnoxiously.
Never thought that I'd be leaving you today, So alone and wondering why I feel this way, So wide the world, Can love remember how to get me home to you someday? We'll be together again, All just a dream in the end.
Originally inspired by and written for the 2005 film The Chronicles of
Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, Lee told
evanescencewebsite.com that the lyrics of "Together Again" are about
"leaving home knowing it may not be there when you return, and the
attraction to something frightening and wonderful far away from there."
It was written from the perspective of the children in the film as they
are "leaving their parents and going into some scary, unknown place."
The song was rejected by the film's director, Lee says, because he
"wanted something that felt more hopeful." So she decided to save it
for "a rainy day".
That day came on January 12th when large chunks of buildings began to
rain down on the population of Haiti. Lee decided to release the song
to raise money for The United Nations Foundation in their effort to
provide disaster relief.
"I am deeply moved by the tragic loss and devastation in Haiti," Lee
said of the effort. "We hope to be able to make a positive contribution
to the UN's emergency response by teaming with the UN Foundation
through our music."
I enjoy this song. It also inspired me to dig out my dusty copy of
Fallen and listen to it for the first time in years. And now, my
interest in the band's upcoming release has officially been ignited.
I plan to keep listening to this track, and I hope you decide to
download it and do the same. Hopefully our combined efforts can help to
bring families in Haiti back "Together Again".

TOGETHER AGAIN SU AMAZON
Together Again by Evanescence From the Album Together Again
"Hey guys. I posted this blog on EvClub last night, and I just thought it should be here too...
Pain is a big part of life. It is the thing that brings us to earth,
keeps us tightly connected to each other. I've never felt closer to
people than in times of great sorrow or distress, and I guess this is
what connects us, people all over the world, to people in Haiti right
now. We are the same creatures with the same heart, and as strong as we
may feel sometimes, we are completely helpless to the brokenness of
this world. Bad things happen. Sometimes its nobody's fault. But the
pain that we feel should make us better.... more sensitive to others
and more concious of our own impact on their lives. No matter what we
give, people around the world will hurt just like we do. But maybe
that's the point, and just for us to try to connect to that pain
instead of shutting it out, is what makes us human. Thank you, all of
you, for donating generously the way that I know alot of you have been.
Sometimes it takes something like this to put it all in perspective.
The next record- awesome. So excited about it. But really, on a grand
scale, who ****ing cares. There are people dying all around us-
emotionally as well as literally. That sentiment is exactly what made
me begin to write music and poetry in the first place, as a kid. So
again, for me that is the point, the reason, the connection. We need
each other, plain and simple. So, (deep exhalation of emotional
release) about the song- As most of you know, "Together Again" is a
song written during the Open Door era. I have always loved it and
wanted to find the perfect home for it. It wasn't at home in the Narnia
movie, it didn't belong on The Open Door, and of all the other nameless
opps that came up in between then and now it didn't fit there either.
The recording you are hearing was made in 2005-6 along with the rest of
the record. About a week ago (a couple of days after hearing about the
recent events in Haiti) Josh woke up (before me as usual) and told me
that he thought maybe this was where the song belonged. I was at first
skeptical on my ability to put all the pieces together and make it a
reality, but I think everyone around me was just wishing for a way to
help too. My manager, Andy, immediately jumped on board and started
making calls. My label agreed to donate their share, my publishing
company did the same, even Ted Jensen (who is a very well known
mastering artist) cut the fee down to virtually nothing so it was very
quick and easy to get the song finished. I am very proud to say that
all of the money that is donated for the download of our song except
for the credit card transaction fee is going to Haiti. Its a cool way
to think about it- maybe the reason it never fit anywhere else is
because it belonged here, all along, for this purpose. I hope and
believe that we are making a real difference together. Thank you guys
again, for caring, for listening to me, and for just being fans. Thank
you... to those who no matter how much pain you've felt, still remain
strong enough to feel more.
love, Amy"

Together Again
La band OGGI pubblicherà Together Again, una nuova canzone che aspettavamo da tempo, e i proventi saranno devoluti alla popolazione di Haiti colpita dal terremoto. Grazie a Amy per l'info.
New York (January 22, 2010) — Internationally renowned musical group Evanescence and its founder and lead singer, Amy Lee, announced today they are partnering with the United Nations Foundation to raise money for the United Nations’ relief efforts in Haiti. “I am deeply moved by the tragic loss and devastation in Haiti. We hope to be able to make a positive contribution to the UN’s emergency response by teaming with the UN Foundation through our music,” says front woman Amy Lee. Evanescence, as well as their record label, New York based Wind-up Records, and their publisher, S1 Songs America, are donating their respective portions of proceeds from the sale of the song to the UN Foundation for the United Nations’ Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF). Beginning Friday, January 22, 2010, the song “Together Again” will be made available as a free download for those who donate to the UN Foundation in support of the CERF. The song, which has never before been released, will be available for the next 30 days as a special download on www.unfoundation.org. “The UN is rising to the challenge in this time of need and we are grateful for the support of Evanescence to help the UN provide food, water, medicine and emergency relief,” said Aaron Sherinian, Executive Director of Communications and Public Affairs for the UN Foundation. “The UN’s leadership is vital to helping the people of Haiti today, and in rebuilding during the weeks and months to come.”
